I'm finally getting around to putting something fresh up on the blog after our move. Apologies for the long hiatus. It turns out, moving is a very time-consuming process, especially with a little toddler running around. So really this post should have been about moving but I couldn't find a board book that looked note-worthy. Any suggestions? One of my favorite moving-themed picture books is Goodbye House by Frank Ash, but unfortunately it doesn't come in board book format. In any case, instead of a move-themed post, I thought I'd pick something spring-themed since, if you're like me and live in a northern state, you're probably getting a little tired of cold, wintery weather.
So, here it is, Jo MacDonald Had a Garden by Mary Quattlebaum with illustrations by Laura J. Bryant, as well as Jo MacDonald Saw a Pond. Both of these stories are such fun. Each page is filled with catchy phrases that children will love to listen to and repeat including the famous, "E-I-E-I-O" from the original Old MacDonald Had a Farm nursery rhyme. In addition to fun, repetitive phrases that will no doubt make you and your little one(s) laugh, the illustrations are thoughtfully drawn with an attention not only to object detail, but also to the many different facial expressions and traits that children exhibit. A lovely series all around, and if you'd like to collect the whole series, there is one more -- Jo MacDonald Hiked in the Woods.
