Remembering Amy Krouse Rosenthal
I'm a little late in posting this, but better late than never. As I'm sure all of you are familiar with picture book author, Amy Krouse Rosenthal, who sadly passed away on March 13th, I thought it only fitting to highlight one of her books in memory of her wonderful work. Cookies: Bite-Size Life Lessons is one of my favorites. In this delightful book, Rosenthal gives children valuable lessons in cooperation, patience, respect, trustworthiness, compassion, and many other noble character traits -- all while baking a batch of cookies. Here are a few excerpts from the book:
Cooperate means, how about you add the chips and I stir?
Patience means waiting and waiting for the cookies do be done.
Trustworthy means, if you ask me to hold your cookie until you come back...I will still be holding your cookie
With stunningly beautiful illustrations by Jane Dyer, every page makes the reader feel as though you can almost smell the cookies baking in the oven.
A really lovely book -- both in writing and in illustration -- and one that children can really relate to and understand.
Is it time to go bake some chocolate chip cookies? I think so!
