One Tomato A Garden Counting Book by Rebecca Mullin & Anna Mullin
Thank you to Rebecca Mullin for sending me a copy of One Tomato: A Gardening Counting Book. From one to ten, each page introduces children to what's ready to pick in the garden. A tomato, two cucumbers, three, peppers, four pumpkins, five potatoes, six carrots...the list goes on. Written in rhyme, here's an excerpt: "On a stalk seven Brussels sprouts cling. Watch out for bumblebees that sting. Eight green beans hang from a vine. Deep purple eggplants make nine."
An inviting introduction to what's in the garden, One Tomato subtly encourages children to be active in nature, to have an awareness of where food comes from, and to know when it's ready to eat!
