Juneteenth for Mazie by Floyd Cooper

With June just around the corner, I wanted to share this lovely board book. For children who are just learning about Juneteenth, Floyd Cooper does a beautiful job of bringing readers into the life of a girl named Mazie as she herself learns about how her great-great-great-grandpa, Mose crossed into liberty on June 19th, 1865.

The illustrations are really lovely and there's a great deal of detail to the text. While the book is long for a board book in terms of the amount of text, it's never too early to introduce young children to longer books. By the end of the book it's Mazie's turn to celebrate. Just as her great-great-great-grandpa, Mose did!

Here are some additional images.

Enjoy!
