The more I read this book the more I like it. Poetically written, author Carole Gerber presents children with the many different types of leaves and their unique characteristics. Illustrated by Leslie Evans, her leaf illustrations not only appear accurate in terms of shape and color, but also in movement. As I flip through the book I can't help but feel immersed in a shower of falling leaves as Evans covers the pages with autumn foliage.
A lovely introduction to leaf identification and their proper names, Leaf Jumpers is a book we'll be reading well into the autumn as we collect sugar maple, oak, basswood, birch, and sycamore leaves.
