For the earliest reader (or board-book-chewer), I Play is another of David McPhail's simply illustrated books with a lot of personality. From cuddly illustrations of a bear to text that reflects a series of early childhood tasks -- "Sit, run, eat, stretch, read..." -- I Play is one of my favorite infant/early toddler board books on the market.
